The Shortlist

The shortlist will be drawn up from a list of nominations received from those with school library responsibility that met the following criteria:
• Fiction for the children’s or young adult market, suitable for years 8-12.
• Published in paperback between 1st September 2021 and 31st August 2022.
• Written in English, or translated into English for the first time, within the dates stated above.
• Author residency in the UK or Ireland.
• Nominated titles must not be part of a series (unless the first volume).

The shortlist will be announced on 20th March 2023, which will mark the beginning of the award shadowing period.
The Books

Schools can source the shortlisted titles as they wish, however, they can take advantage of the Education Authority’s 40% discount and pre-order each of the titles through them using the form included in the registration details emailed to schools.
Shadowing

Shadowing will run from March, with a book group resource booklet provided to registered schools. The winners of the Book Award will be decided by the reading groups taking part, with a finale event to be held in the summer term.
